Eric Lombard assures that "the ISF is completely ruled out" in the 2026 budget

François Bayrou will defend his savings plan before the Medef (French employers' association) on Thursday afternoon, despite the risk of a failure in the confidence vote.
By Le Parisien with AFPHe was speaking this Thursday morning at the annual Medef meeting, the Meeting of French Entrepreneurs. Economy Minister Éric Lombard stated that the Wealth Solidarity Tax (ISF) was "completely ruled out" in the 2026 budget. On Wednesday, Medef President Patrick Martin had rightly stated that he opposed any return, in any form, of the ISF. He also warned against the temptation to overtax the wealthiest . "There is no surcharge for businesses, which was planned for one year, and the research tax credit is protected. Everything will be debatable, but there are two limits: reducing deficits and protecting our businesses," assured Éric Lombard.
The Minister of the Economy said he was "convinced" that the budget would be adopted "on time" and that it "will allow us to have a public deficit of 4.6% in 2026."
Eric Lombard also stated that he "does not believe in a financial crisis" despite the political uncertainties to which the markets, and particularly the stock market, reacted quite clearly this week.
The Prime Minister will also speak in the afternoon before the main employers' organization. The head of government will once again defend the broad outlines of his €44 billion savings plan for 2026 , presented in mid-July and already contested by the opposition, in particular his proposal to eliminate two public holidays.
The confidence vote scheduled for September 8 in Parliament is currently off to a rocky start. If it fails, the Prime Minister would have to resign, and time would then have to be taken to rebuild a new government.
